Say No to Fruit Juice, Video, and Yes to Whole Fruits in Your Smoothies!

Fruit juice is high in sugar, with none of the fiber from the whole fruit to slow down its absorption. Juice in particular will cause a surge in the delivery of sugar to your bloodstream. Once your metabolism is burning hot, you can enjoy a little dried fruit or a small glass of juice once in a while without bad effects (especially during a workout), but until then, it’s best to avoid it.

So when you’re craving a smoothie, make sure to use whole, organic fruits and vegetables. If you want to add some thickness, try soaking cashews or sunflower seeds and pureeing them along with your fruits. If you're on Phase 3, you can even add avocado for the same consistency as you would have if you added a banana (which is not on the FMD approved list).

There are so many smoothie recipes on my website—ones that are specific for digestion, inflammation, ones that really help with hormones—whatever your needs and tastes, you'll find plenty there.
