Can dessert be the reason for your weight loss? Try these mouth-watering treats.

Stress triggers the metabolism to slow down, and the system senses an emergency and goes into fat storage mode. Stress can also increase cortisol and minimize the thyroid hormone’s effect on the metabolism. Pleasure has just the opposite effect. When you take pleasure in the food you eat, you actually work with nature to speed things up. And bonus: you won’t need to overeat.

Pleasure stimulates the metabolism by triggering the adrenals to produce endorphins. These endorphins - what we know as the feel-good brain messenger - stimulate the brain to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating brain hormone that in turn stimulates the thyroid to produce the fat-burning hormone. Talk about a chain reaction.

Pleasure sets off a terrific cascade of events that lower leptin levels, a hormone that makes you hungry. After sex, your leptin levels are lowest. Taking pleasure in food can have the same effect. When you enjoy what you eat, you get a double benefit: you are satisfied and full.

Something else powerful happens when you step away from self-loathing and guilt and enjoy the food you’re eating: you start to take better care of yourself. The pleasure, joy, and excitement about your food translate into pleasure and joy and excitement in the choices you make about your food and how you live your life in general.

Find pleasure, joy, and excitement in these three mouth-watering

Coconut Cacao Truffle

Phase 3 & Maintenance | Makes 14 truffles

Prep time: 15 minutes | Total time: 2 hours 15 minutes (includes chilling time)

2/3 cup mashed avocado (about 1 large)
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
1 teaspoon almond extract (omit if you just want straight chocolate)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup carob chips
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes

  1. Blend the avocado in a food processor until it is very smooth. Add the cacao powder, optional almond extract, and vanilla extract and blend until well combined.
  2. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, microwave the carob chips for about 1 minute, stirring every 20 seconds, until melted. Add the avocado mixture to the bowl of melted carob and stir until thoroughly combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  3. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper, and place the coconut flakes in a shallow plate.
  4. Using a small cookie scoop or a melon baller, scoop the chilled carob mixture and roll around in your hands to create even balls. Roll each ball in the coconut flakes and place on the prepared cookie sheet. Refrigerate until ready to serve. 2 truffles is a serving of healthy fat.

Did you know?

Typically, most of the energy people expend during times of stress from emotional, to financial, to relationships, to work stress, is in trying to resolve the stressful situation. But what if you can’t? The fact of the matter is that many stressful situations are un-resolvable, so instead of trying to end the stress, we need to figure out how to adapt to it and thrive in spite of it. They say stress can make you stronger. Possibly, as long as you either get a break from it or support yourself through it.
