Are You a Heavy Drinker? You Should Be

Dilution is the Solution for Pollution

Drink half your body weight–in ounces–in water, every single day. If you weigh 150 pounds, for example, that’s 75 ounces of water daily. This is an absolute must—a major key to optimizing and maintaining your metabolism.

Why All The Water?

Without enough water, your body will slam the brakes on fat-burning. It’s simply trying to protect itself.

Fat-burning creates byproducts your body needs to flush away—literally—and it needs plenty of water to dilute them first. Too little water and these highly concentrated toxins will send your kidneys into a four-alarm mode. “Slow down!” they’ll command the soldiers in your fat-burning army (the adrenal, hypothalamus, pituitary, and thyroid glands), and fat-scavenging will grind to a halt.

To make matters even worse, your body will start hoarding water making you look puffy and bloated.

Luckily, You Can Knock This Out Effortlessly.

Just sip water throughout the day, preferably spring water (spring water maintains a healthier electrolyte balance than tap or bottled purified water). Don’t just guzzle all of your ounces right before bed.

Herbal tea (non-caffeinated) and fresh-squeezed lemonade or limeade (sweetened with xylitol or stevia) are fine, too—but they don’t count toward your water intake. And you don’t want to train your taste buds to expect sweet drinks, so limit these to two a day or less. (Alcohol doesn’t count towards your water-drinking goal either.)

Make this a lifelong habit. Drinking lots of water flushes waste more easily from your body and helps keep your bowels moving—plus you’re boosting your metabolism with every sip. Remember: Dilution is the Solution for Pollution!

Let’s Make This Easy! Check Out These Quick Water-Drinking Tips From Community Members:

Lucy M Griffith – I use colored rubber bands on my water jug to remind me how many I have to drink. I start the day with 5 rubber bands (I use the fat blue ones off of broccoli) as I refill I take one rubber bands off. At any given time I can see how far behind I am in my water drinking. I am so happy when at the end of the day all my rubber bands are gone, and I drank all of my water for that day. This really helps me make sure I get my water in!
Carrie Barton – I have a water bottle that I fill every morning w/RO water. As soon as I get up, I squeeze a lemon in the glass and drink it down. Then I play a sort of college drinking game with myself: I drink 5 big gulps every time I a) get a text message b) hang up from a phone call c) on the 1/2 hour and hour and d) when someone tells me they love me I double down and drink 10 gulps.
Minnesota Skye – Last year, when I was under the weather and having a hard time drinking water, I decided to treat myself to a few liters of Evian. Evian always tastes good to me, and wow, they went down so easy, drank four in one day. I can’t afford it every day, of course, but it reminded me that not all water tastes great and sometimes it’s the taste of our water that keeps us from drinking as much as we should. When this happens, I find that it’s time to change up the source of water, at least for a while. Ideas include filter it, find a local spring or a well, fill a gallon at work or a friend’s house, or buy a fancy brand of bottled for a change.
Suanne Craghead Wilda – I’m a stay at home mom. I am usually busy cleaning, organizing, etc. especially the first part of the week. I put a 32 oz. water bottle in 3 places around the house. One in the kitchen, one in the front room, and one upstairs in the bedroom. Whenever I am in those rooms, I’m sipping on them. If I run errands one is always with me in the car. I am usually able to get my intake in by dinner time.
Rebecca Clark – I fill 4-quart jars at night…place mint leaves, lemon slices, and various fruits (all organic ) in the fridge with lids…yesterday I placed lavender flowers and rose petals in a glass of water on my bedside table for the drinking before sleep and waking…it had lime slices too…I cannot tell you how pleasant it was waking up with the wonderful aroma…I bought plastic jar lids with holes in the middle that you can place straws and cozies for insulting…on the go insulated bags…for lunches and water…I freeze a few jars to place in my bags…wonderful…easy…healthy and saves money. Also, beautiful for just a few moments of relaxation. The aromatherapy, visual effect, taste, and nutrients all help with the day’s stress…meditation breaks with water…really helps.
