5 Steps to Build a Peace Plan for Autoimmune Conditions


Have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and feel confused, frustrated, or scared?

This is a special topic for me because I have an autoimmune disorder and I know exactly how it feels to have your body at war with itself. But did you know, that using a prescription focused on food can manipulate the metabolism to get your immune system back on track? I know because that is what I had to do to heal my own immune condition. There wasn’t a practical guide out there for me, so I had to create one. I’ve created this for you.

It’s time to make a plan for peace. Using my book, Food Rx, we’re going to understand why it all began and how we can reverse that process. We’re going to identify how to calm the storm by targeting specific metabolic pathways and triggers that sent the immune system into overdrive in the first place. Whether it is food allergies, heavy metal toxicity, life’s chronic stressors, or latent viral infections, the goal is to eliminate these triggers to calm things down. We’ll find out what part of the body is being attacked and create a peace plan to nourish the body with what it needs to heal. 5 Steps to Build Your Body’s Peace Plan for Autoimmune Conditions

  1. Take your prescription (eat), six times every day. You will be eating every three to four hours. This means you’ll have three immune-stabilizing meals and three immune-balancing snacks.
  2. Eat strategically for immune repair.
    a. Do a rotation diet. This may be a new concept to you, but rotation diets are absolutely essential for people with autoimmune conditions. On this prescription, you’ll never eat any one food more than three times per week, and preferably never two days in a row. Using the meal maps provided in my book, I guide you through this rotational style of eating to help you achieve this.
    b. Avoid specific foods. Anyone with autoimmune issues must carefully read ingredients and look for hidden gluten, dairy, corn, rice, potatoes, and soy. These are common foods and ingredients that can trigger the immune system to overreact. I’ve included a specific “Avoid List” in my book, Food Rx, along with the Top Power Foods for Immune Repair to help you build your meal maps. Pay attention at all times and always keep these lists with you whenever grocery shopping.
    c. Never eat complex carbs and proteins together. This combination can create a firestorm of acidosis and trigger inflammation. Instead, you’ll want to eat carbs with lots of alkalizing vegetables to help you break down the carbohydrates without stimulating inflammation.
    d. Always eat fruit on an empty stomach and wait thirty minutes before eating anything else. Fruit when eaten alone, seems to be digested more efficiently. It helps to keep the immune system from overreacting and nurtures the adrenal glands. Have your fruit first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening as a snack.
  3. Work with your doctor. Tell your doctor you are working on dietary strategies to help stabilize your immune system. I’ll walk you through the specific lab tests to ask for, how to ask for them, and how to build a supportive partnership with your doctor. Together we’re going to build your health dream team, and having your doctor on board is an important piece.
  4. Reduce Stress. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to reduce your stress. So do what you love, do what makes you feel overwhelmingly happy. For me, that means riding my horse. But for you, if it’s singing, join a choir. If it’s painting, start taking a weekly class. If there is something that brings you joy and removes your stress, do it. It needs to be a part of your life.
